Sept. 4-5 Meeting To Review IPET Draft Final Report

WEBWIRE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers established the Interagency Performance Evaluation Taskforce (IPET) to evaluate the performance of New Orleans’ hurricane protection system during Hurricane Katrina, as well as the reliability of current defenses. The IPET is primarily investigating the design capacity of the hurricane protection system; forces exerted against the system and its response; and factors that resulted in overtopping, breaching, or failure of levees and floodwalls.

Reports issued by IPET are being reviewed by a committee of the National Academy of Engineering and National Research Council at the request of the U.S. Department of Defense. At its next meeting in Washington, D.C., the committee will hear presentations by IPET officials on their recently issued draft final report. The meeting will also include a session for public comment.

MEETING DETAILS:

The meeting will be held in Room 100 of the National Academies’ Keck Center, 500 5th Street, NW, from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, and from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5.
