Russian Carrier Deploys JUNOS-Based Ethernet Services Routers to Accelerate Service Velocity and Achieve Operational Gains

Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that RETN, one of the leading network carriers in Russia, has deployed the Juniper Networks MX-series Ethernet Services Routers to create a faster, more reliable and service-enabling network infrastructure. RETN provides high-performance network capacity and transport services for its service provider customers, who depend upon the RETN network to deliver high-capacity, bandwidth-intensive services and applications.

“RETN’s business reputation is built upon our network’s ability to deliver high-speed throughput and maximum service availability. The market is becoming increasingly competitive, so we continue to invest in our infrastructure to stay ahead of the game,” said Dmitry Samarin, chief executive officer, RETN. “We selected the MX-series because we feel it is the most advanced Ethernet Services Router on the market, perfectly suited to our need for a high-performance network infrastructure. The fact that it runs on JUNOS, a proven and consistent operating system, also gives us a great deal of confidence, and enables us to leverage existing investment in our network without extra training or management costs.”

Since its foundation in 2002, RETN has increased its network reach and capability across Russia and internationally. Today the company has interconnection with more than 550 domestic and international network partners, serving more than 900 corporate and service provider customers. A few of the main routes on RETN’s network provide 30 gigabit links to ensure sufficient bandwidth is available for its customers’ data application services. The company has data centers in Amsterdam; Ashburn, Virginia; Berlin; Prague; Kiev; Frankfurt; Helsinki; London; New York; Stockholm and Washington, DC; in addition to Moscow, St. Petersburg and several other Russian cities.

The Juniper Networks MX960 ESR delivers up to 960 Gbps of switching and routing capacity and optimized for emerging Ethernet network architectures and services. The MX960 combines the established reliability and service flexibility of JUNOS software with a best-in-class hardware platform purpose-built for the most demanding carrier applications. It offers support for high-performance multicast, unmatched scalability, price-performance improvements and stability in the core network for service providers delivering multiplay services to subscribers. The MX480 delivers up to 480Gbps of switching and routing capacity in a smaller form factor and shares the same line cards, switch fabrics, route engines and operating system as the MX960.

“Carriers and service providers face the challenge of controlling costs while maximizing their revenues with innovative, high-quality services that can scale in line with business expansion. RETN clearly understands this challenge, and is investing in its network infrastructure in order to fuel profitable growth,” said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations, EMEA, Juniper Networks. “The MX-series provides a fast, reliable and secure platform for rich, innovative, fast-to-market services that will attract and retain customers cost-effectively, providing true competitive advantage.”

Juniper Networks local integration partner NVision will provide installation and deployment services.
