Extends the reach of High Definition PC Video Conferencing to Mobile Workers

SAN FRANCISCO, INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, August 2008 -TANDBERG® unveiled today the first public preview of TANDBERG’s HD (high-definition) PC video conferencing technology. Business-quality video conference calls at 720p30 resolution were demonstrated using a TANDBERG PrecisionHD camera operating on an Intel® Mobile Core™ 2 Quad laptop formerly codenamed ’Montevina’, running TANDBERG’s Movi software. The Intel Mobile Core 2 Quad-powered laptop also ran other applications while simultaneously engaging in HD PC video conference calls.

“While other vendors offer consumer-acceptable PC video conferencing, we have demonstrated the video quality that businesses require to adopt PC video communications,” said Fredrik Halvorsen, TANDBERG CEO. “This move solidifies TANDBERG’s technology leadership. More importantly, it enables mobile workers to achieve the increased trust and faster decision-making already experienced by users of desktop and room-based video conferencing and telepresence systems.”

Movi, TANDBERG’s business-quality PC video conferencing solution enables teleworkers, transit commuters, remote workers and business travelers to participate in face-to-face meetings and conversations. Movi, available in early 2009, is based on video conferencing industry standards making it possible to connect people with co-workers using any standards compliant telepresence, conference room video conferencing or executive desktop video systems.

“The Intel Mobile Core 2 Quad mobile processor not only provides the performance headroom for high-definition video conferencing on laptops, but is able to execute the demanding workloads and applications running concurrently, making it a compelling solution for businesses today,” said Dadi Perlmutter, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Intel Mobility Group. “Working with the Intel software team, TANDBERG was able to take advantage of the optimizing tools to provide high-definition video conferencing with low-CPU utilization.” Perlmutter also featured the HD video conference in his keynote at the Intel Developer Forum.

TANDBERG’s HD PC video conferencing software takes advantage of the Intel Quad-core mobile processor and Intel® SSE4 instructions that increases the performance and power efficiency of TANDBERG’s world-leading video conferencing HD codec, bringing HD quality to mobile video conferencing. The Intel® Software Development Products enabled TANDBERG and Intel software engineers to jointly innovate and deliver the HD PC video conferencing solution and maximized the efficiency of the software developers’ work. Intel® VTune™ Performance Analyzer helped the developers identify the most crucial parts of the code and guided the developers’ attention.

Anyone attending the Intel event can experience this HD PC video conferencing technology by visiting booths # 103 & 106 at San Francisco’s Moscone Convention Center West. Additional TANDBERG HD PC video conferencing demonstrations are planned for Interop New York at The Javits Center on Sept. 17-19, 2008 and Convention VoIP in Paris from Oct. 21-23, 2008.
