Automatic Creation of Graphic Displays

New image analysis software from Carl Zeiss for fluorescence microscopy

Carl Zeiss is introducing a software module for fluorescence microscopy which automatically creates graphic displays during quantitative image analysis. Possible displays include histograms, scatter plots, image galleries or limited data tables in any required sequence and quantity. AxioVision 4.7 SFM (Scanning Fluorescence Microscopy) enables exceptional incidents to be verified in the form of images. Such exceptional incidents include, for example, characteristic T cells in cytology. This SFM module for the AxioVision 4.7 image analysis software ensures the allocation of data and image details. However, the images can also be evaluated directly via scripts.

AxioVision 4.7 SFM contains numerous functions which have been specially designed for flow cytometry. For example, the multichannel MosaiX image capturing function offers correction possibilities such as shading correction, XY displacement and focus correction. These functions can all be set specifically for each channel. While until now only measuring data was created and graphically displayed in flow cytometry, the new software now enables channel-dependent structures to be examined directly in the cell or object image. AxioVision macros and sample scripts to capture channel-dependent densitometric, geometric data and texture data are contained in the delivery package. The user can check and modify all image processing steps required for evaluation. Furthermore, an expensive laser scan cytometer is no longer required due to the automatic allocation of data and image details.

Images are captured via the motorized Axio Imager fluorescence microscope with motorized stage, the AxioCam MRm camera and the AxioVision 4.7 software. All the user requires to access the SFM evaluation is the edge coordinates and the index values of the objects which the AxioVision measuring module provides as standard parameters. In addition to SFM, the AxioVision software package also comprises the following modules: Multichannel, MosaiX, Autofocus, Imaging Plus, AutMess Plus, Interactive Measurement and Commander. The software operates under Windows XP and Windows Vista.
