In celebration of the enduring spirit of competition while overcoming adversity, Nike is debuting two inspirational commercials featuring world class track star Sanya Richards and the USA Softball Team.

For members of the USA Softball Team, the Beijing Olympic Games take on deeper meaning as softball enters into its final year of Olympic competition. In “We Have Softball,” Nike highlights the team’s passion and commitment to continuing to play the game regardless of the circumstances. The ad will debut in the U.S. on August 12, and features members of the four-time, gold medal winning USA Softball Team along with clips of other softball participants around the country playing the game in various settings.

Featuring the song “The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A” by Donna Fargo, the commercial concludes with USA Softball players Jessica Mendoza, Lauren Lappin, Vicky Galindo, Laura Berg, Andrea Duran and Stacey Nuveman sharing in laughter as the words “We have softball, you can have everything else” appear on the screen.

Beginning August 15, Nike will debut “A Dream Deferred,” an inspirationally charged ad that gives viewers a glimpse into Sanya Richards’ life over the past two years. After battling a rare ailment that threatened her track career, Richards persevered to return to action stronger than ever before. The ad shows Richards training and getting ready to return to competition in the 400 meter run.

The 60-second and 30-second ads were developed with Wieden+Kennedy Portland.

Earlier this month Nike kicked off its global advertising campaign for Beijing with a television commercial entitled “Courage.” The ad celebrates one of the most inspirational brand statements of all time, ’Just Do It,’ by capturing the very essence of an athlete’s motivation. Last week Nike began airing “United We Rise,” an ad featuring the USA Basketball Team that is set to the score of Marvin Gaye’s legendary rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.”
