2007 Mollydooker Wines Land in US Market

Sarah & Sparky Marquis are proud to announce the release of their newest vintage of Mollydooker wines. The quality is superb - their 2007 Velvet Glove Shiraz and 2007 Carnival of Love Shiraz from McLaren Vale, South Australia, have already been rated as “Classic Wines” by Wine Spectator, and four more of the 2007 Mollydookers have been chosen among the “Editor’s Most Exciting New Wines”.

Starting September 1, 2008 US consumers can purchase the new 2007 vintage wines in select wine shops and on the US Mollydooker Winery website http://www.mollydookerwines.com. Website orders are shipped from the Mollydooker warehouse in California’s wine country. Consumers are encouraged to place their orders early since many wines sold out in just days after release last year.

“The 2007 wines are incredible” says Sparky Marquis, who together with his wife Sarah, is owner and winemaker. Unfortunately, our total production is down 40% from last year because of drought conditions in Australia. However, the grapes we produced were so good that a relatively large portion attained the rare 95+ Marquis Fruit Weight™ grading, which means we were able to produce more Velvet Glove Shiraz than last year.”

“In some ways we wish every vintage could be like this, but unfortunately we can only make Enchanted Path, Carnival of Love and Velvet Glove in years where we have exceptional fruit quality.” adds Sarah. “We already know that because of the heat wave in McLaren Vale this year, we will not have any Velvet Glove or Carnival of Love wines from 2008.”

Mollydooker fans will be pleased to know that the popular “Lefty Wines”, priced at $25 a bottle, are better than ever in this spectacular vintage. The Lefty Wines include The Boxer Shiraz, Two Left Feet Blend, The Maitre D’ Cabernet Sauvignon, The Scooter Merlot and The Violinist Verdelho. Sparky Marquis is glowing about the 2007 Boxer Shiraz commenting that Boxer fans will be blown away with the quality and power of the 2007 vintage.

The Mollydooker “Party Wines”, priced at $55 a bottle, include Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz and Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon, and the “Love Wines”, priced at $90 a bottle, are Enchanted Path Shiraz/Cabernet and the award-winning Carnival of Love Shiraz. Last year, Carnival of Love was #8 in Wine Spectator’s ‘Top 100’ Wines of the Year. Sarah says “This year it is even better, because the fruit was so intense.”

The 2007 Velvet Glove Shiraz, Australian cult wine phenomenon, is priced at $185 per bottle. Last year the 2006 Velvet Glove Shiraz was awarded 99 points by Robert Parker and 97 points by Wine Spectator magazine.

“We are very grateful that we have such a strong fan base in the United States.” says Janet Gawith, Mollydooker’s General Manager and Sparky’s mom. “We try to make wines that make people go ‘WOW’ and America has responded. We now have thousands of American Mollydookers and Honorary Mollydookers on our mailing list.” Mollydooker is an Australian term for a left-handed person; Sarah and Sparky Marquis are both “South-Paws”. Honorary Mollydooker is a special title for those of us who are right handed.
