UK economy may be slowing but franchising still going strong

Survey demonstrates that enquiries into franchise businesses are still strong, and online directories are key in the search process.

London – August 11th 2008 Inflation may be high and property prices falling, but one industry where business is still strong is the UK franchising market. It seems that when it comes to the crunch and choosing between working for someone else or becoming your our boss, franchising can be the perfect solution.

In a recent survey conducted by International Franchise Corporation Limited (IFC), amongst the 34 – 45 age group over 33% are still looking to set up a franchise within the next 3 months, but it is the under 35’s who are slightly more conservative in their search with 43% taking on average 6 to 12 months to find the right business opportunity.

Since the internet now seems part of our daily life, it’s no surprise that when it comes to deciding on our future business the internet is still king. A total of 59% of respondents use the internet as their primary research tool, with the ability to interact face to face at exhibitions coming in a close second.

While the internet is still the primary research tool, our respondents are keen to see new features introduced to aid and improve their franchise search. Although having access to tools such as introductory videos was deemed important; the most popular feature on 70% of respondents wish list would be the ability to use a built-in email system for secure and instant communication with franchisors.

“This survey highlights the importance of the internet in providing potential franchisees with key information to allow them to eventually pursue their new careers” says Daniel Yorke, Director of IFC, “it is for this reason that we have invested heavily in the new site to improve functionality for both the franchisors and franchisees to enable both sides to find the right business partners and successfully develop their franchise”.
