HP Teams with Symas to Deliver Open Source Directory Across HP Server Platforms

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec 20, 2005, HP today announced that it has signed an agreement with Symas Corporation to expand its certification and services for an open source directory across all HP industry-standard platforms.

Symas Corporation is one of the most prolific contributors to the open source project, OpenLDAP. Coupled with HP’s enterprise-level support and services, the OpenLDAP- based directory is one of the most secure and flexible identity management platforms on the market.

Symas’ OpenLDAP distribution, Connexitor Directory Services, is essentially OpenLDAP in a box, offering customers faster deployment, easier paths to upgrades and rapid bug fixes.

To further complement the agreement, HP OpenView Identity Management products will support Symas OpenLDAP. This level of support assures customers of a comprehensive identity and access management solution across all HP industry-standard platforms. OpenLDAP is based on the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).

“HP’s work with Symas provides customers with an open source alternative to their identity management and directory services challenges,” said Christine Martino, vice president, Open Source and Linux, HP. “With this agreement, HP continues to deliver one of the most extensive arrays of open source services and integrated solutions available today.”

HP also has incorporated OpenLDAP as part of its HP Linux Reference Architectures, an integrated stack of software and hardware components that facilitates the rollout of production-grade deployments on Linux.

HP will provide organizations with subscriptions to and support for Symas’ Connexitor Directory Services and also consulting and integration services for OpenLDAP implementations, including project assessments, strategy and architecture, application migration, identity management and complete service-oriented architecture solutions.

“Symas is pleased to be working with HP to help fill out customers’ needs for an enterprise-grade directory based on industry standards,” said Marty Heyman, president, Symas Corporation. “By providing a more secure, stable directory, HP and Symas are driving customer confidence in open source adoption.”

“HP was an early proponent of identifying complementary open source solutions, and supporting those technologies so that customers can deploy them with confidence,” said Al Gillen, research director, IDC, a technology analyst firm. “The announcement between HP and Symas extends the richness of HP’s reference architecture solutions, and delivers another key element for today’s IT customer.”
