Midland, MI - December 20, 2005, The Dow Chemical Company announced today its continued commitment to its SARAN™ Resins and Films business as it nears completion of a substantial upgrade to its Midland, Mich., production facility. The $45.1 million upgrade strengthens Dow’s ongoing efforts in innovation with SARAN Resins and Films, the world’s premier solution for barrier packaging, which Dow invented in 1939.

“This investment in state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and technologies enhances our ability to deliver innovative SARAN Products that open up new applications for customers and enable them to offer higher barrier differentiated end products,” said Carlos Ruiz, Global Product Marketing Manager for SARAN Resins and Films, The Dow Chemical Company. “We see great potential in SARAN Products. We continue to work with our customers to further advance multi-layer cast and blown film technology to drive the adoption of clear, coextruded SARAN based Films in growing high-barrier packaging applications, including but not limited to retort and hot fill, processed meats, dry goods, hygroscopic goods, liquid packaging and snacks.”

SARAN Resins and Films are a preferred choice for food packaging applications because they deliver a cost-effective and dependable moisture, oxygen, and odor barrier which locks in flavor, prolongs shelf-life, and has the clarity to showcase quality. SARAN Products also are used in ostomy devices, textile lamination for protective clothing, fibers, and a variety of industrial applications.
