TestAmerica Pioneers New Procedure for Determining Method Detection and Quantitation Limits

WEBWIRE

Dr. Richard Burrows of TestAmerica, nationally recognized for his technical expertise, will present on a new procedure designed to determine method detection and quantitation limits. The presentation will be held at the 2008 National Environmental Monitoring Conference (NEMC) on August 14, 2008 in Washington, DC.

This procedure, pioneered by Dr. Burrows and further developed under his leadership in association with an EPA sponsored Federal Advisory Committee, is intended to replace the current method detection limit (MDL) procedure found in Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The procedure was designed for applicability to a broad range of analytical methods. Dr. Burrows will explore the general concepts incorporated into the new procedure, as well as discuss the reasons for several difficult decisions that went into its development.

Dr. Burrows, Director of Technical Services at TestAmerica, is actively involved with environmental methods and technique development through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL), and Federal Advisory Committee on Detection and Quantitation. Dr. Burrows’ method development work has involved bringing new perspectives to method detection limits (MDLs), quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), environmental reference materials, volatile and semivolatile organic compound methods and HPLC/MS. For more information on this new procedure, please contact Dr. Burrows through TestAmerica’s Ask the Expert webpage.
