Livebox goes live in Jordan!

WEBWIRE

Amman, December 20, 2005 - Jordan Telecom announces today that it has successfully launched the VoIPoDSL (Voice over IP over DSL) commercial service under the brand name “Livebox”. The Livebox project will provide Jordan Telecom’s residential DSL customers with a high quality double play (voice and data) service at a very affordable cost.

Within its partnership with Jordan Telecom, Alcatel accepted the challenge to integrate and deploy the innovative solution in a very short time schedule. Alcatel was responsible for the overall systems integration for the project including Netcentrex application components.

Jordan Telecom is the first operator in the Middle East to commercially launch double play over broadband. Triple play (voice, data and video) will be available to customers in the near future. Jordan Telecom will be able to offer an outstanding quality of service and performance to customers, compared to the low quality services currently available on the Internet. Through this deployment, Jordan Telecom is providing Jordanian citizens with state of art telecom services at affordable prices while increasing the value of the legacy fixed network to prevent customer churn.

“The move to VoIP, which was made possible by state of the art convergent technology and by the introduction of a new regulatory and licensing regime earlier this year, will extend services available to subscribers, ushering in a new age of convergent voice and Internet services. In a second phase deployment, Jordanians will also benefit from video connectivity,” comments Luc Savage, Chief Strategy Officer at Jordan Telecom. “Livebox promises to underpin new, globally competitive service rates for business and residential users alike based on ADSL development. VoIP will also stimulate Jordan’s potential as a competitive call centre location as traffic becomes cheaper.”

“In order to maintain a competitive edge and provide high quality services it is necessary to have the support of a world class supplier with proven leadership in the area of VoIP,” commented Jean-Marie Garcia, CTO of Jordan Telecom. “Alcatel in partnership with Netcentrex, will provide a state of the art service and help satisfy our customers at a very reasonable price.”

Vincenzo Nesci, Alcatel Vice President Middle Eastadded, “the challenge of integrating and deploying the solution, provides us with the opportunity to emphasize the partnership between Jordan Telecom and Alcatel. This contract enhances our leading position in the area for VoIP solutions and will make the transition to triple play in the near future effortless.”

“Netcentrex and Alcatel collaborated closely to meet all Jordan Telecom’s requirements and ensure seamless end-to-end services. The implemented solution provides Jordan Telecom with a wide range of unique, value-added media services from IP Telephony to video and fixed-mobile services. These services will provide differentiation on a rapidly evolving market and enable Jordan Telecom to benefit from a rapid return on investment,” concludes Philippe Besseyre des Horts, Netcentrex Vice President for sales, EMEA and Asia-Pacific.
