GE Energy to Provide Services for Beijing Power Plant That Will Supply Power for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

New Facility Also to Help Meet Beijing’s Future Heat and Power Requirements

BEIJING, CHINA - July 2008 : – GE Energy will provide long-term services for a new power plant that will supply electricity for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, as well as heat and power for the city of Beijing in the future.

Under a 10-year contractual services agreement (CSA) signed with Beijing Taiyanggong Gas-Fired Thermal Power Co. Ltd (Taiyanggong) of China, GE will provide all parts, repairs and services for two GE Frame 9FA+e gas turbines at the new plant. The agreement also includes risk-sharing mechanisms and performance guarantees to help ensure that the 750-megawatt facility provides reliable and cost-effective heat and power to Beijing.

Taiyanggong is owned by Beijing Energy Investment Holding Co. and SP Power Development Co. Ltd.

“The Taiyanggong power plant is an integral part of the Beijing infrastructure that has been developed as a clean energy project to supply clean energy and heat for Olympic Games venues during the period of the Beijing Olympic Games,” said Wang Yongliang, general manager of Taiyanggong Power Plant.

“Located close to Beijing, the facility is a showpiece of high-efficiency, combined-cycle technology in China and draws a number of important visitors, both domestic and from overseas,” said Jack Wen, GE Energy country executive for China.

GE is a worldwide partner of the Olympic Games. The company has provided support for more than400 infrastructure projects such as Taiyanggong in and around Beijing, including work at all 37 official Olympic Games competition venues and 168 commercial buildings.

Currently, GE has more than 500 CSAs in place with customers around the world.

GE CSAs are designed to provide stability in the planned maintenance of the gas turbines, while sharing associated risks between the customer and the services provider. Customers also benefit from upgrades to the latest technologies supplied by GE and access to dedicated, full-time personnel.

The Frame 9F gas turbine technology supplied by GE for the Taiyanggong project is well proven in China and globally, with 29 of these machines installed for projects in the country and more than 180 around the world. Designed for high levels of reliability, availability and efficiency, these 260-megawatt machines have accumulated more than one million operating hours and are part of the GE fleet of installed F-class gas turbines that has compiled more than 23 million fired hours, making GE the clear global leader in advanced gas turbine technology experience.

GE Energy has been active in China for more than 90 years and has provided the country with nearly 60 steam turbines and more than 160 gas turbines.
