Labour’s 2008 National Policy Forum held at the University of Warwick

The UK press descended onto the University of Warwick campus this weekend to report from the Labour Party’s 2008 National Policy Forum (NPF), which concluded on Sunday 27th July.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown opened the NPF by delivering a key note speech to party members, trade unions, socialist societies, Labour representatives and the wider community. After which the weekend was devoted to deciding on the party’s next manifesto.

Health, public services, equal pay, and tackling poverty were on the agenda, and some approved issues include extending the minimum wage to 21- from 22-year olds, and reducing the voting age from 18- to 16-years of age.

The University of Warwick previously hosted Labour’s NPF in 2004, where the “Warwick Agreement” was established and used in the run-up to the 2005 general election.

Gordon Brown is no stranger to Warwick University. His previous visits include a ceremony to unveil the foundation stone for the Warwick Digital Library, and earlier this year he opened Warwick’s Digital Lab using ‘virtual scissors’ to cut a ribbon in cyberspace.
