Support will help at-risk teens learn work-related skills and value of community service

The Alliant Energy Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to the Rawhide Boys Ranch to support the organization’s About Face Service Corps – a program where young men learn about moral values, integrity, honor, courage, self-discipline, hard work, loyalty and selfless service to others. The About Face Service Corps is a 120-day, residential program emphasizing involvement in community service projects and physical training with high standards set to challenge participants for continuous improvement.

“The Rawhide Boys Ranch has helped young men become reengaged in their families, schools and communities for over 40 years and we are pleased to support the About Face Service Corps program they operate,” said Marthea Fox, Alliant Energy Foundation Executive Director. “Rawhide provides a critical role in putting young men back on a positive path and we want to assist them in creating strong futures for the population they serve.”

With an emphasis on involvement in community service projects, the About Face Service Corps program achieves positive outcomes for adjudicated young men through family-centered care, physical conditioning, personalized education and character-building activities such as community service work.

At-risk young men in the About Face Service Corps are in a two week rotation where they attend school at Starr Academy, Rawhide’s on-campus private school, and then perform community service projects for two weeks. Physical training is also part of their daily routine.

“We appreciate the support of the Alliant Energy Foundation and the countless other organizations and individuals that help Rawhide work toward its goal of equipping at-risk, teenage boys in becoming responsible adults,” said John Solberg, Rawhide’s Executive Director. “Rawhide is very blessed to have the opportunity to meet and partner with so many friends that support the work of changing lives.”
