The National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer (NBLIC) is hosting a conference, “Health Disparities Symposium on Cancer: Addressing the Issues,” in conjunction with the NBLIC III, Community Networks Program at Morehouse School of Medicine. The event takes place on September 22 – 23 at the Marriott Houston West Loop by the Galleria, 1750 West Loop South.

Faith-based leaders, public health practitioners, nurses and other health professionals are invited to attend this event co-sponsored by The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Topics to be addressed at this year’s conference include racial and ethnic health disparities, clinical trials and African-American participation, barriers to health care, and cancer disparities. Attendees will be encouraged to exchange information and foster alliances that may reduce cancer disparities in minority populations.

Keynote speaker, Lovell A. Jones, Ph.D., director of the Center for Research on Minority Health at M. D. Anderson will speak on racial and ethnic health disparities. Dwight E. Randle, Ph.D., senior scientific advisor for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Elise D. Cook, M.D., associate professor of Clinical Cancer Prevention at M. D. Anderson, also will speak at the event.

The Susan G. Komen “On the Go” tour bus will be on exhibit at the event as part of its fifth cross-country tour to more than 50 communities across the United States. Komen “On the Go” is a mobile experience that educates and encourages people to take charge of their breast health. All are invited to visit this free exhibit.

Conference registration is $50 per day. For registration and exhibit information, visit Moorehouse School of Medicine. For more information, call 1-800-950-2045.
