Fiberail continues network expansion with Alcatel-Lucent’s optical solution

Fiberail Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s leading fiber optic network operator and a network solution provider, and Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced the expansion of Fiberail’s existing network. Based on Alcatel-Lucent’s optical technology, the network will provide Fiberail with enhanced capacity, flexibility and scalability to address the bandwidth needs of its diversified customer base, including managed network service providers, global operators, discounted voice operators, broadcasting operators and financial sectors. Alcatel-Lucent also is providing deployment and maintenance as part of the expanded contract.

The Alcatel-Lucent optical solution enables Fiberail to extend its network along the railway corridor in both the western and eastern part of the Malaysian peninsula, as well as along the gas pipeline corridor on the east coast. By increasing the network’s capacity to carry voice, data and video traffic over a single platform, Alcatel-Lucent’s solution helps Fiberail cost-effectively address customer demand for advanced business applications such as Ethernet-based services, as well as popular residential applications such as triple play.

This new project– based on Alcatel-Lucent’s 1626 Light Manager and 1696 Metrospan, managed by the 1350 network management system – further confirms Alcatel-Lucent as a partner of choice in the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) environment. According to Ovum RHK, Alcatel-Lucent led for full year 2007 the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) segment with an 18.4% market share and had a # 1 position in both metro WDM and multi-reach dense WDM segments. Alcatel-Lucent also is a global leader in designing, deploying and maintaining networks.
