Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 14, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the recently published 3Q05 North America Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network1 (SSL VPN) and 2H05 Network Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) Appliances2 Magic Quadrant reports. Juniper’s placement in the Leaders quadrant is based on the company’s completeness of vision and ability to execute in both the SSL VPN and IPS markets.

According to Gartner, “Leaders” are vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction, and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market. Their actions raise the competitive bar for all products in the market and they can change the course of the industry. According to Gartner, to remain in the Leaders quadrant for SSL VPN technology, vendors must excel in mobile access and protection, as well as dominate in sales. To remain in the Leaders quadrant for IPS technology, vendors must have demonstrated a track record of delivering successfully in enterprise IPS deployments and winning in competitive assessments.

“We are pleased to be positioned by Gartner in the Leaders quadrant in these emerging technologies,” said Hitesh Sheth, vice president of enterprise products and solutions for Juniper Networks. “Juniper Networks continues to drive security product innovation and leadership, and we believe this latest report from Gartner exemplifies the value and trust customers place on Juniper for securing and assuring their network environments.”

The Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances, which have earned the most awards and industry accolades in the SSL VPN market since its first products shipped in 2001, continue to represent the market’s leading SSL VPN product line. Enterprises and service providers worldwide have selected the Juniper Networks SSL VPN to help them increase efficiency and productivity. Juniper Networks’ award-winning intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) system provides inline attack protection against worms, trojans, spyware and other current and emerging threats. The IDP product uses multiple detection methods and full application layer inspection to accurately identify attacks and minimize the number of false positives.
