Newt Gingrich Signs as Columnist for Church Report

PHOENIX -- Former U.S. Congressman and House Majority Leader Newt Gingrich has agreed to write a regular column for the Church Report, announced the magazine’s publisher and Editor-in-Chief Jason Christy. Gingrich’s column will focus on current events and public policy pertinent to Christians.

“For over 20 years Newt Gingrich has been on the cutting edge of conservative public policy and Christian issues in this nation,” said Christy. “From his 1994 ’Contract With America’ that helped redefine the political landscape in America, to his innovative ideas on health care and the role of government in the 21 st century, Mr. Gingrich has been a leader whose ideas are respected and sought out. First elected to Congress in 1978, Gingrich served the Sixth District of Georgia for 20 years, and was Speaker of the House of Representatives From 1995 to 1999.

Gingrich was largely responsible for the Republican Party’s 1994 “Contract with America” that helped the GOP win control of Congress after 40 years. He was also instrumental in the passage of key welfare reform legislation, and helped guide through Congress the first balanced budget in 10 years and the first tax cuts in 16 years. Time magazine named him its “Man of the Year” in 1995.

Gingrich is also the critically acclaimed author of several best-selling books, including Contract with America and To Renew America.
