Enhancements Increase Efficiency For Design and Manufacturing Applications and Provide Support for Latest Microsoft Computing Environments

Tuesday, December 13, 2005, PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced the availability of Parasolid® version 17.1 (V17.1) software, the latest release of its industry-leading geometric modeling component software. Parasolid V17.1 includes new capabilities to support more efficient 3D model construction, editing and refinement as well as to enhance computer-aided manufacturing applications. This latest release also includes extended support for advanced Microsoft technologies to deliver general productivity improvements for users of Parasolid-based systems.

“The Parasolid team has an unparalleled track record of supporting leading-edge application developments with timely solutions,” said Bruce Feldt, vice president of Open Tools for UGS. “The Parasolid V17.1 release harnesses the latest improvements in modeling techniques and computing environments to bring new levels of operational efficiency to the over 1.5 million users of Parasolid-based systems.”

Strength and Versatility

Parasolid V17.1 includes significant extensions to its robust functionality and ease-of-use across a variety of application domains, including:

· New manufacturing support functions for tool-path simulation and hole identification;

· Added capability for fast local editing with new patterning and face patching controls;

· Blending and filleting extensions to increase end-user productivity in complex configurations; and

· Enhanced modeling operators for efficient sheet modeling and construction.

Microsoft Environment Support
Parasolid V17.1 uses the new technologies released in Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005. In particular, the 64-bit Windows® platform is now fully supported, using the X64 compilers released with Visual Studio 2005, enabling advanced applications to utilize Parasolid with very large data sets to achieve unparalleled performance and scalability. Parasolid has also been released on 32-bit Windows using the compilers from Visual Studio 2005 to deliver improved performance and reduced code size.

Parasolid V17.1 also features a .NET binding, allowing Parasolid customers to integrate Parasolid into applications based on the latest Microsoft .NET technologies. Parasolid can be called via the binding with minimal performance overhead, laying the foundation for a new generation of Parasolid-based products.
