Alcatel-Lucent shows how to transform communications networks to enable carriers to deliver a personalized experience for customers

WEBWIRE

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced its plans to demonstrate how it is leading the way in enabling the transformation of communications networks at the NXTcomm 2008 trade show, which runs June 16-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Alcatel-Lucent, in booth number 3116 in the South Upper Hall of the convention center, will showcase its technologies, software and services that enable service providers to transform their networks and business – a critical issue as they seek to deliver secure, personalized applications and services to their customers while managing their expenses.

Alcatel-Lucent will showcase its integrated approach for end-to-end transformation, which is based on a comprehensive portfolio of innovative solutions designed to help service providers benefit from new and existing business models that exploit the ability of advanced broadband networks to deliver profitable growth. This transformation will make it possible for service providers to offer their customers a variety of new voice, video, data and multimedia capabilities that can be available on any screen, any where and any time based on the individual customer’s personal preference. These solutions are part of Alcatel-Lucent’s objective to address the challenges service providers and enterprises face as they address changing end-user expectations and behavior, new business models and market dynamics. The demos and subject matter experts will explain how the technologies, solutions and programs can help carriers transform their networks, services and business.

A key theme of the Alcatel-Lucent booth is how the company’s solutions help carriers monetize IP calls/sessions before, during and after the call or session. The goal is to enable service providers to create value from each session by removing the barriers or frictions between domains to create always-on services that grow the top line, drive organizational efficiency and create business value.

Alcatel-Lucent will help service providers capture more intelligence in the network, enabling better overall service to customers and partners and that helps create tighter subscriber and third-party loyalty.

Demonstrations
At NXTcomm, Alcatel-Lucent will highlight its unmatched end-to-end portfolio of technology and services, focusing on technologies and services that deliver a personalized user-centric experience. Among its demonstrations and presentations, Alcatel-Lucent will feature:

In-Building Wireless
This solution provides opportunities for operators to expand their revenue stream as Alcatel-Lucent channel partners. The Unified In-Building Wireless offer can help operators in key vertical segments and markets including hospitals; commercial buildings; public places: mass transit, malls, airports and stadiums; universities; manufacturing / warehouses; and residential buildings.

Geographic Messaging Platform (GMSP) – The demonstrationshowcases the NXTcomm Eos Award-winning GMSP, which is a next-generation location-driven platform and set of applications that leverage the advanced functionality of today’s mobile networks and devices, enabling mobile social networking and mobile marketing applications built on top of the patented platform. The applications deliver content when opted-in users enter a certain location. GMSP was invented by Bell Labs, commercialized within Alcatel-Lucent Ventures, and will become part of the award-winning Messaging Suite in Alcatel-Lucent’s applications portfolio.

Targeted Advertising - Applying an end-user advertising scenario, the demonstration will showcase both the network and application features that enable the network to intelligently use subscriber data to push more targeted advertising content to end users. The solution provides a means to deliver the correct ads to the correct viewer at the right time, improving both the number of ads that can be sold and the value of each ad. It also ensures that the ad placement does not disrupt the carrier network and generates additional revenue by selling “user action” data to advertisers. Data could be derived from a single source, such as users clicking on a TV menu to “get additional information”, or from multiple sources, such as visiting a web site within a short interval of viewing an ad on TV. The solution enables the management of advertising campaigns that bring specific types of viewers to the advertisers and ensures subscriber anonymity to safeguard consumer trust.

IPTV / Mobile TV – This demonstration shows how a user experiences entertainment across the three screens – TV, mobile, PC, and how content can be shared across those screens whether they’re at home or on the go – providing a simple, personal and predictable experience.

Unlimited Mobile TV - Alcatel-Lucent’s Interactive Mobile TV solution delivers 3G users personalized content, live and on-demand TV and “made for mobile” TV channels featuring a rich media player, an electronic programming guide (EPG), smart navigation and fast channel changing — as well as video and audio quality optimized for mobile handsets. Users enjoy personalized rich media for interactive, personalized and contextual video services (e.g., voting, quiz, personalized information or purchase) as well as seamless access to associated services (e.g., “one-click purchase” of ring tones, video clips, ring-back tones, and video greetings).

This solution also integrates User Generated Content web services, which can be shared over Mobile TV. In addition to the 3G service, Alcatel-Lucent’s Mobile Interactive TV also provides efficient mobile broadcast technologies, such as DVB-H or DVB-SH, in addition to 3G.

Service Focused Transport - A comprehensive portfolio of packet optical and IP networking solutions will be showcasing next generation triple play and mobile services.

Telecom Meets Web 2.0 – A focus on NGN IP Networks, leveraging telecom and web 2.0 that includes a live demo of the Class 5 VoIP/Portal and wireline video telephony and Facebook.

Service Delivery and Assurance - The fast pace communications market demands that providers introduce new blended lifestyle services and applications faster, and with less risk and cost. Alcatel-Lucent’s Service Delivery and Assurance solutions streamline real-time creation, charging, and activation of multi-session, personalized services, leverage common inventory and catalogs to create blended end-user services involving components such as presence, payment-type, video applications, and more. Integrated service assurance and customer care ensure quality and make trouble management faster, increasing efficiently and driving down costs.

IMS Converged Communications – This demonstration shows how the Alcatel-Lucent IMS Solution enables operators to expose the information and capabilities of their network to the web and thus efficiently compete with new entrants from this domain. This demonstration also highlights IMS end-to-end integration: how a complex network can be successfully pre-integrated and tested in an external lab. This demo showcases that Alcatel-Lucent’s IMS Solution enables mobile operators can progressively extend their mobile offer across their entire customer base with PC calling.

Boosting Broadband with IMS and SS7 – This live demonstration of the Alcatel-Lucent 5060 IP Call Server shows how service providers can transform their voice core network to compete more effectively by introducing broadband services in new markets (e.g., xDSL, PacketCable 2.0, WiMAX, Femto), and retire legacy TDM switches while maintaining basic POTS services. Also the Alcatel-Lucent 5074 Signaling Defense Solution enables providers to defend their vital SS7 network against new forms of attack and disruption caused by SMS spam, hackers, and interconnected networks.

Services – A comprehensive services portfolio including network design, integration operation and maintenance, as well as managed networking, managed communications services will be covered in an interactive presentation in the theatre in Alcatel-Lucent’s booth.

In addition to the demonstrations, Alcatel-Lucent will also have several speakers at NXTcomm presenting on a range of topics:
