Avnet Technology Solutions to Distribute Colubris Networks WLAN Products in Germany

Nettetal -- Colubris Networks, a leading supplier of intelligent wireless LANs (WLANs) for enterprises and service providers, and Avnet Technology Solutions, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), today announced the signing of a global distribution agreement. Following the successful business relationship between Avnet and Colubris in the United Kingdom, Avnet will launch distribution of Colubris technology in Germany. The agreement allows Avnet to distribute Colubris’ full product portfolio, expanding Avnet’s offerings in wireless solutions for the German market.

The Colubris MultiService Controllers (MSCs), MultiService Access Points (MAPs), Wireless Client Bridge and the Network Management System offer secure WLAN connections and support all the mobility functions essential to modern networks.

The MAPs support the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n standards and offer the flexibility needed to operate up to three parallel bands in the frequency ranges of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. In addition, the MAPs can be configured flexibly for the following types of systems: Wireless Distribution System (WDS), Access Point (infrastructure) and Sensor, and can be operated both internally and externally.

The Colubris product concept is based on intelligent Access Points (APs). The APs process the entire 802.11 MAC-Layer Protocol directly and provide for centrally defined Quality of Service (QoS) and security policies at the wireless edge. Based on a distributed WLAN architecture, the Colubris system offers high performance, efficiency and scalability and ensures a reduction in the data traffic transmitted over the network backbone of up to 98 percent versus conventional switching solutions. The Colubris solution also provides automatic search (autodiscovery) and stand-alone configuration of the APs, including the Radio Frequency management and the location services. With the MultiService Controllers (MSCs), all access points integrated in the network can be managed and controlled centrally. The MSCs provide the services needed by the WLAN clients, enable the roaming functions and, beyond that, also ensure consistent implementation of the QoS and security mechanisms. The plug-and-play functions simplify the entire operation of the WLAN and drastically reduce the operating costs.
