The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) a task order to develop, implement and maintain the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) Next Generation. The initial award is for $18 million and the total potential five-year value if all options are exercised is $62 million.

The Homeland Security Information Network is a national information sharing and collaboration platform that provides and serves as a conduit to Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) data that is maintained by, and shared in a multi-directional, trusted and secure environment among DHS and other domestic and international partners. General Dynamics will update the current Homeland Security Information Network technology to implement the HSIN Next Generation requirements.

“With growing and changing threats, hazards and incidents that our nation and citizens face every day, it is critical for DHS to continue to remain vigilant and look for ways to enhance its ability to share information and increase situational awareness,” said Lou Von Thaer, president, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems. “General Dynamics will help DHS expand its national information-sharing and collaboration environment, to ensure that data and analysis can be shared in a multi-directional, trusted and secure environment among DHS and its partners.”

The General Dynamics team includes Ambit, Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin, ManTech, and Sim G Technologies. The technical solution providers include Adobe, EMC, Oracle, RSA and Sun Microsystems.

The task order was awarded under the DHS Enterprise Acquisitions Gateway for Leading Edge Solutions (EAGLE) contract.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), designs, develops, manufactures, integrates, operates and maintains mission systems for defense, space, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, homeland security and homeland defense customers.
