M. D. Anderson Presents Best-Selling Author and Buddhist Monk, Matthieu Ricard, Ph.D.
The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is hosting an educational program featuring internationally respected, best-selling author Matthieu Ricard, Ph.D., on Tuesday, June 17.

Check in begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Lowry and Peggy Mays Clinic, 1st floor Conference Center, 1220 Holcombe Blvd., followed by the evening’s program at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Recent research increasingly has confirmed the important role of stress in the development of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and gastrointestinal, neurological and emotional disorders. In his presentation, Ricard will explain how to overcome stress by examining the inner and outer factors that increase or diminish our sense of well-being.

Ricard completed a doctoral degree in molecular biology with the Nobel laureate, Francois Jacob, before leaving France to study Buddhism in the Himalayas, where he has spent the last thirty years. With his father, Jean Francois Revel, Ricard co-authored the 1999 French bestseller “The Monk and the Philosopher,” which was translated into 21 languages. He is the co-author of “The Quantum and the Lotus” and is the author-photographer of a number of photography books. He is a major participant in current research by neuroscientists on the effects of meditation on the brain.

Ricard has been featured in Self, O Magazine, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The New York Times magazine. His contributions have appeared in “Working with Destructive Emotions” and other books.

Parking is free underneath the Lowry and Peggy Mays Clinic. Advance registration is required as seating is limited. The registration deadline is June 16. To register, e-mail publiced@mdanderson.org or call 713-745-0549. Include the attendee’s name, address, e-mail address and how many people will be attending.
