( http://ferrari-enzo.info ) Whenever the fans of premium sportscar gather it is a sure bet that one of the cars they will be discussing is the Enzo Ferrari. Named in honor of the founder of the Ferrari motor car company the exclusive F60 Enzo was released in 2003.

Limited to only three hundred forty-nine units in the Enzo’s original production run, this vehicle was offered to previous buyers of Ferrari vehicles and, with a nearly three quarters of a million dollar price tag, was still sold-out before production even began.

Fifty more units were later constructed due to a large demand for the car and one additional Ferrari Enzo, the four hundredth and last of the line was auctioned for charity by Sotheby’s in 2005 for over one and a quarter million dollars. Even today, when one of the Ferrari Enzo F60’s is traded, it generally surpasses the one million dollar mark.

The twelve-cylinder engine was a new design for Ferrari and heralded the first of this kind of propulsion system for their future automobiles. With four valves per cylinder, the Ferrari Enzo can obtain sixty miles per hour in just over three seconds and top one hundred miles per hour in less than seven seconds.

The Ferrari Enzo was produced with a semi-automatic transmission using paddles rather than a clutch to control gear shifts. With a shift speed of just one hundred fifty milliseconds, the Enzo was equipped with an LED display on the steering wheel to facilitate a proper shifting sequence. The speed at which the Enzo shifts is one of the few points of complaint this high performance vehicle has ever endured from its owners.

Ferrari has consistently been the style innovator for this type of sportscar and the F60 Enzo was no exception. Based on this new body and engine style, collector James Glickenhaus commissioned Pininfarina to produce a vehicle built on an unregistered Enzo chassis.

The resultant vehicle was dubbed the “Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina” in honor of the excellent results. Maserati developed the MC 12 with most of the internal components of the Ferrari Enzo as a racing vehicle. While it is a slower starter, the MC 12 has managed to overtake and lap the Enzo in track tests.
