Dina Páucar named UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassador for Peru

LIMA, May 2008 - Singer Dina Páucar was named National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF today. This appointment reflects her commitment to Peruvian children, as shown when she visited and gave a concert in the earthquake affected region.

"Dina is an example of the hard-working woman who managed to get through in life fighting despite difficulties,” said UNICEF Representative in Peru, Guido Cornale.

Dina Páucar, born in Tingo María, a small town in Peru came to Lima at the age of 10, where she worked as a street vendor and a maid to help her younger brothers. Thanks to her efforts and talent, Dina is considered one of the most successful composers and singers of Peruvian folkloric music with her albums now top sellers.

“I want to contribute with campaigns that will help prevent and fight the violence that affects the children and women of my country,” she Dina. The artist explained that she was taking on the position of Goodwill Ambassador as a way of giving back the good things she has received from life.

Goodwill Ambassadors are renowned people who utilize and take advantage of their public persona to disseminate messages and carry out activities to support children.

Dina along with other UNICEF National Goodwill Ambassadors such as Gian Marco share a commitment to improve the life quality of the children and adolescents of Peru.

David Beckham, Shakira, Jackie Chan and Vanessa Redgrave are among the International Goodwill Ambassadors for UNICEF. Diego Torres and Ricardo Montaner stand out at regional level.
