Rapid rollout of Motorola 3G gear meets consumer demand for high-capacity multimedia services

Taipei, Taiwan – 8 December 2005 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that the company deployed its commercial UMTS solutions within nine months of contract signing, successfully enabling VIBO Telecom to launch 3G commercial service on December 6, 2005.

Motorola provided VIBO with a complete 3G networks solution including Motorola’s UMTS system and exclusive 3G handsets, enabling VIBO to launch the latest 3G multimedia services this week to customers across Taiwan. A system upgrade to HSDPA enabled by a simple software download will be carried out at a future time, when VIBO opts for a 3G network enhancement.

With Motorola’s high performance and cost-effective UMTS network, VIBO was able to provide its initial 1.5 million subscribers with innovative, high-speed 3G services, when it launched services. Subscribers now have easy access to VIBO’s 3G multi-media services, enjoying a greater variety of higher quality voice and data services than previously available with 2/2.5G solutions.

“The launch of island-wide UMTS service affirms VIBO and Motorola’s leading position in bringing innovative UMTS services to end-users, and marks another milestone for Motorola’s support of 3G deployment worldwide,” said Simon Leung, regional president, Motorola Asia Pacific, “Our innovative products and global network experience enable Motorola to best support customers such as VIBO to rapidly and cost-effectively launch 3G networks.”

“Launching 3G with our attractive package of new services will enable VIBO to capture significant market share,” general manager of VIBO, David Wang said. “The speed with which we were able to launch our commercial UMTS service is a clear demonstration of the strength of our relationship with Motorola and the expertise, quality and value that Motorola brings to our business,” Mr. Wang continued. “With its experience and track record, Motorola continues to be the best choice to help us deliver high-quality, advanced services to our customers.”

Crucial to the successful rollout of VIBO’s 3G network, Motorola delivered UMTS Node B Horizon 3G base stations, a complete UMTS Radio Access Network (UTRAN), as well as comprehensive support services to the operator. Motorola also delivered exclusive 3G handsets, the dual-mode Motorola E770 with A2DP (Advance Audio Distribution Profile) capability, enabling the operator to best demonstrate the attractive features and applications available on their new island-wide network.

Motorola’s UMTS equipment enables short deployment times with its easy installation. Motorola’s network architecture is further designed to provide easy upgrades from UMTS to HSDPA, requiring only a simple software download, thereby enabling a cost-effective migration path. With Motorola’s UMTS network, VIBO can leverage its investments as it continues to expand its network capabilities.

About HSDPA
HSDPA is a key enabling technology for mobile broadband. As the next step in the evolution of UMTS, it provides significant performance benefits, as well as up to two-thirds reduction in the cost per bit of delivering data. HSDPA frees UMTS capacity to carry voice traffic. Its greater capacity also supports more users enjoying higher speed mobile broadband. For example, with peak download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps, a novel can be downloaded in approximately 10 seconds.
