Ametek Introduces The Latest Innovation In Advanced Force Testing—The Chatillon TCD225 Series Digital Force Tester

LARGO, FLORIDA - AMETEK Measurement & Calibration Technologies has introduced the CHATILLON TCD225 Series, an advanced force-testing system that incorporates the latest design and control innovations. The TCD Series can be set up in seconds to perform virtually any type of test.

“The TCD Series is the answer for customers, who want to perform simple or multi-variable testing without relying on a personal computer or complex software,” comments Rich Brown, Marketing Manager, AMETEK Measurement & Calibration Technologies.

“We designed the system to match the needs of production personnel, providing them with a graphical interface for setup, large easy-to-read displays, help prompts and intelligent messaging. The system’s flexibility and ease of use make it ideal for applications ranging from springs to medical devices.”

The TCD225 force tester consists of a powerful, yet easy-to-use console, a rugged frame with a high-performance, closed-loop motion control system and an intelligent load sensing system with measuring accuracies better than 0.1% full scale. The lightweight, portable tester can be easily positioned to fit within tight work spaces. Its large throat depth is ideal for testing large diameter samples without requiring more expensive and higher maintenance two-column platforms.

Its controls are easily accessible. Its console can be positioned for maximum comfort and readability. It also eliminates the need for a personal computer without compromising operational performance or capability.

The console features a large 5x8 inch color graphic screen that presents information in a clear, easy-to-read format.

Menus and prompts are used during setup to assist the user. Data is displayed in tabular and graphical formats. Color is used to identify key status events or to inform the user of specific events. There are multiple language options so operators can perform tests and setups in the language they are most comfortable.

The frame operates from 0.001 to 50.0-inches per minute (0.01 to 1270 mm/minute) and employs an advanced closed-loop PID controller for precision travel (accuracy better than 0.25% unloaded). An innovative thumbwheel drive allows users to precisely control crosshead position and speed when in manual mode, making fixture preparation and alignment safe and efficient. Each frame is supplied with a Certificate of Calibration.

The TCD Series also incorporates AMETEK’s exclusive Chatillon TLC Series sensor technology. Sensors plug into the console, which automatically downloads all sensor characteristics. Safeguards are included to prevent an operator from using the incorrect sensor on a particular test.

Seven interchangeable load sensors are available ranging from 250gf to 200lbf. These also can be interchanged with the Chatillon DFS-R-ND Series force gauge. They come standard with a certificate of calibration with NIST data and uncertainty and can be calibrated to better than 0.5% of indicated reading when calibrated on site in accordance with ASTM E4 or ISO 7500-1.

The TCD225 Series collects data at a true 1000 samples per second. The sample rate can be configured from 1-1000Hz. Data can be used to plot graphical results or downloaded automatically to a USB flash drive. The USB flash drive can save test results or test setups. It also provides an inexpensive way to document and backup test setups. Combined with the systems AUTORUN feature, it offers users the optimum way to ensure secure testing and automatic audit trails of testing and user actions.

The TCD225 Series offers a host of features designed to optimize testing and protect users and equipment. Mechanical limits are provided on the front of the column to prevent accidental distance over-ranging. It includes a series of load limit options to prevent accidental overloads. The crosshead stops when either the upper or lower limit switch is engaged.

The force tester also provides the ultimate in security. The console features two levels of user access: supervisor and operator. Both levels may be password protected. The supervisor has complete system access, while an operator may be configured to have access only to specific tests or functions. The system also can be set up so it operates only when the “required” USB flash drive is installed.
