Web Conferencing Integration among New Features in Jabber, Inc.’s Most Extensible Windows Desktop Client

December 6, 2005 – Denver, Colo. – Jabber, Inc. today announced the immediate availability of the AOL® Instant Messenger™ (AIM®) Gateway from Jabber, Inc. and Jabber Messenger (JM) 3.1, the newest version of its Windows desktop client. The Gateway, initially announced in April and shipping as of today, provides seamless interoperability with AIM® users and is widely considered a major milestone in the progress towards broad instant messaging (IM) connectivity. Using the Gateway in concert with the JM 3.1 client, Jabber, Inc. and AIM® users can subscribe to each others presence information, appear on each others contact lists, and exchange messages in real time. The Gateway is a sanctioned, secure, and auditable way for Jabber, Inc. customers to communicate with partners and customers who use the public AIM® network.

“Through our enterprise federation agreement, the AIM Gateway from Jabber, Inc. is the only authorized means for Jabber, Inc. users to access the AIM network,” said Brian Curry, vice president, Premium and Subscription Services for America Online, Inc. “Sanctioned federation between AIM and Jabber, Inc. users is a significant and positive step in the ongoing mainstream adoption of IM as an invaluable tool for business.”

In addition to the AIM Gateway from Jabber, Inc., JM 3.1 allows users to launch Web conferencing and other event driven applications from within the JM client. Dubbed LaunchBroker, this capability gives users the ability to open real-time sessions of multimedia applications—such as Web conferencing and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)—across the desktops of all intended participants, based on the presence of the invited parties.

“LaunchBroker allows customers to enable collaboration tools at the server without having to touch the installed base of clients,” said Joe Hildebrand, chief technology officer of Jabber, Inc. “More than simply initiating a Web conference with a click, LaunchBroker manages multi-user sessions of any application through a unified desktop that facilitates better real-time information exchanges.”
