Collaboration With SAP Provides Installation Routine for SAP Business All-in-One Solutions on IBM Power Systems

ARMONK, NY - May 2008: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced a new offering to help small and midsize enterprises (SME) rapidly deploy SAP software on IBM Power Systems. The new offering, IBM i InstallOption for SAP, dubbed “KOBI,” provides SAP value added resellers with a pre-configured and fully customized installation routine for SAP Business All-in-One solutions that can reduce system installation time at the customer site significantly.

“IBM Power Systems is an excellent platform to bring innovation to new market segments,” said Hans-Peter Klaey, president, Global SME and corporate officer, SAP AG. “This approach is providing customers with a highly configurable and customized enterprise solution that lowers the total cost of ownership.”

KOBI is developed for installing SAP Business All-in-One solutions optimized for IBM i running on IBM Power Systems hardware. Basic components include an IBM DB2 database, SAP ERP Central Component 6.0, the SAP Solution Manager and SAP Best Practices. SAP value added resellers work with a midsize enterprise to determine their specific industry needs, and IBM provides a pre-configured and installable ’image’ for the value added reseller to deploy at the customer site. KOBI could be made available for all Industry SAP Best Practices.

KOBI is an “SAP Pinnacle award finalist” and the award winners will be honored at SAPPHIRE® ’08 Berlin, SAP’s international customer conference, May 19 through 21 in Berlin, Germany.

International restaurant chain Barbecue Plaza utilized KOBI with SAP ERP 6.0 applications including financials, controlling, materials management, sales & distribution and production planning functionalities, running IBM i on an IBM Power Systems server. The installation image approach delivered a ready-to-run operating system, database and SAP software environment in just one day. “Our users are not particularly technically skilled, and we have a small management team that is focused on running restaurants,” said Neerada Choopojcharoen, Business Development Executive, The Barbecue Plaza Co. Ltd. “Our objective was to implement the right solution for the company quickly, easily and at low cost. The complete SAP solution was delivered very rapidly.”

“The ability to create and deliver a pre-configured and customized solution for our joint SME customers helps to drive more value from restrictive IT budgets and enables a faster return on investment,” said Marc Dupaquier, general manager, IBM General Business. “IBM and SAP value added resellers also benefit from KOBI as the installation routines can be reused with the customer as they grow and also across specific industries to further speed installation.”

KOBI is available today from IBM and selected SAP value added resellers. For more information on IBM and SAP solutions, visit www.ibm.com/solutions/sap.
