Supports SSL VPN with Enhanced Threat Control Over Malicious Traffic, Remote Control Applications and Eavesdropping Threats

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 5, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced it has enhanced the endpoint defense capabilities of its industry-leading Secure Access (SA) SSL VPN platforms with integrated Malware Protection from Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC). The new Malware Protection bolsters Juniper’s Enterprise Infranet strategy with enhanced threat control, and is supported on the entire family of Juniper Networks Secure Access SSL VPN appliances using the new Instant Virtual Extranet (IVE) 5.2 operating system software.

The Secure Access SSL VPN appliances with integrated Malware Protection from Symantec enable enterprises to provide secure and assured employee and partner remote access with increased protection from eavesdropping threats such as trojans, key loggers, remote control applications, and monitors. The integrated Malware Protection is dynamically provisioned to the endpoint, so there is no client software to install on individual computers.

“We are pleased to be working with Juniper Networks to provide Malware Protection for Juniper’s SSL VPN solutions,” said Brian Foster, senior director, product management, Symantec. “This combined solution offers specific protection to ensure Juniper SSL VPN users do not introduce new eavesdropping threats to the enterprise in the form of trojans, key loggers and other malicious code.”

Juniper’s latest SSL VPN software release also provides customers with pre-defined Host Checker policies that significantly simplify the administration and configuration of industry-leading third-party endpoint defense applications. These pre-defined host checks help an organization easily ensure that the selected applications are installed and running on the PC both before a user is granted access to corporate resources and during a user session. Juniper also provides a simplified and intuitive configuration of the endpoint security checks so network administrators are not required to analyze the technical details of the security and configurations that occur with endpoint security applications. In addition to Juniper’s SSL VPN product family, the IVE 5.2 operating software will also be available for the Infranet Controller product family for improved unified access and threat controls throughout the network.

“Juniper’s platform enhancements and integrated Symantec Malware Protection further demonstrate our dedication to providing the most innovative and comprehensive access control solution,” said Andrew Harding, director of product management for Juniper Networks. “We are continuing to simplify our best-in-class solutions by integrating Symantec Malware Protection and pre-defined host security checks into the SSL VPN platform. We are once again driving down deployment costs and simplifying management.”

The Juniper Networks SSL VPNs are based on the IVE platform, which uses SSL, the security protocol found in all standard Web browsers. IVE 5.2 is available for all Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances, including the recently introduced SA 700, 2000, 4000, and 6000 platforms. The SSL VPN appliances enable enterprises to provide remote access to mobile employees, contractors, partners and customers without requiring a pre-installed client. The appliances also allow enterprises to secure extranet or intranet access without a DMZ build-out, server hardening or Web agent deployments.

The Juniper Networks Secure Access appliances, which have earned the most awards and industry accolades in the SSL VPN market since its first products shipped in 2001, represent the market’s leading SSL VPN product line. Enterprises and service providers worldwide have selected the Juniper Networks SSL VPN to help them increase efficiency and productivity. Juniper Networks also continues to be the only SSL VPN provider to have completed multiple, independent security audits - supporting its goal to deliver secure and assured networking solutions. The SSL VPN appliances have passed rigorous security audits by Information Security Partners, LLC (iSEC Partners) and Cybertrust, Inc.
