JOHANNESBURG, South Africa 01-DEC-2005 The African Operations region of Oracle Corporation, the largest enterprise software company in the world, has been voted Employer of the Year by Africa Investor. The judges commented that Oracle’s focus on employing local people in Africa, strong in diversity and giving equal opportunities to women, made it the winner over finalists Barclays Bank, Chevron Nigeria and SOMAADIA.
The Africa Investor awards were established in 2004 and the inaugural award presentations were made at the African Business Congress in Dakar, Senegal. The Ai Awards are the only pan-Africa investment awards. They reward companies, organizations and individuals for investing in the continent and doing so in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.

“Oracle’s global business model is applied to Africa, in that we believe in investing in local skills rather than importing them,” said Desi Lopez Fafie, managing director of Oracle African Operations. "This model makes for a workforce with a very low attrition rate and one which is supported by training and career development.

“We do have the best talent in Africa, and we hope to be able to attract more Africans back to the continent. With a culture of continuous learning and on-going support, wrapped in a business model that clearly suits Africa, we are confident our people will continue to grow, innovate and succeed.”
