Cybook e-ink Reader Gets Accidental Damage Plan at BooksOnBoard

WEBWIRE

BooksOnBoard, a large online retailer for eBooks and downloadable audio books, now offers its customers the first Accidental Damage and Handling Plan anywhere for the new Cybook e-ink eBook Reader. Available in 2 year and 3 year plans, the plan protects users from accidents. It goes beyond the standard one year warranty against hardware defects also remains in effect.

According to Bob LiVolsi, president of BooksOnBoard, Inc. (www.BooksOnBoard.com), “The Cybooks have proven very robust since we first made them available for our eBook customers a few months ago. To our customers’ delight, we have seen no confirmed manufacturing defects or failures. We have seen accidents, however, and an e-ink device like the Cybook is expensive to repair.“

An e-ink screen replacement alone can approach $200 – and may get more expensive if the dollar continues to weaken against the Euro. Bookeen, the manufacturer of the Cybook, is based in France where the Euro is the primary currency.

LiVolsi adds, “The plan eliminates any questions of who is at fault. A Cybook covered under the plan will be repaired at our expense if it falls within the terms of the agreement. The BooksOnBoard Accidental Damage plan helps minimize customer expense associated with an accident and get customers a repaired or replacement unit much more rapidly.”

The policy covers accidental damage to any part of the Cybook Gen 3 Ultralight, but only allows one screen replacement. Other parts may be repaired or replaced as often as appropriate during the coverage period. It is only available at the time of purchase to those who buy the device from BooksOnBoard.

The Cybook Gen 3 Ultralight currently reads all Mobipocket eBooks whether they have eBook Digital Rights Management (DRM) or not. Cybooks also have an earphone jack so that its owners can use it to listen to music or even an audio book. Mobipocket is a subsidiary of Amazon, manufacturer of the Kindle e-ink reader, the same technology used on the Cybook.
