Duke Energy Lifts Ban on Lake Pumps

WEBWIRE

Due to improving drought conditions, lake irrigation pumps can be used one day a week to irrigate landscaping on Saturdays, beginning Saturday, April 5, 2008.

Saturday use of lake irrigation pumps is approved for Duke Energy Carolinas’ lakes in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin and in the Keowee-Toxaway River Basin.

Rainfall and conservation have increased lake levels and stream flows are showing signs of gradual improvement. With this week’s Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group recommendation to allow one day of watering per week, Duke Energy is authorizing lake irrigation pump use for irrigation consistent with major public water system operators for Catawba-Wateree and Keowee-Toxaway lakes.

Drought conditions will continue to be monitored, and lake irrigation pump use will be evaluated again by May 30, 2008.

Please continue to conserve water since our region remains in an extreme drought.
