VALHALLA, New York, April 4, 2008 – FUJIFILM Recording Media USA today announced that they will introduce Fujifilm Dual Layer media for the XDCAM Professional Disc System at NAB 2008 at the Las Vegas Convention Center Las Vegas, April 11-17 (Booth# C4210).

FUJIFILM’s new media are high-capacity, Blu-ray-based optical recording disc for use with Sony XDCAM and XDCAM HD video systems. This dual-layer version of the XDCAM® Professional Disc™ media offers more than 2X the storage capacity and recording capabilities of the original single-layer optical media.

“Fujifilm is proud to offer one of the broadest media portfolios in the industry. The XDCAM format offers a flexible, easy to use option for video capture in a variety of environments, with the resulting video files offering flexibility in file transfer and manipulation,” said Tom Volpicella, Vice President, Professional Markets Sales, FUJIFILM Recording Media USA. “This disc-based solution is great for engineers looking to integrate new hardware technologies with an existing tape-based HD operation.”

The FUJIFILM dual-layer Professional Disc is guaranteed compatible with XDCAM and XDCAM HD systems and has a total storage capacity of 50 GB to provide professionals up to 4 hours and 30 minutes of high-definition content on the dual-layer disc when shooting in MPEG HD 4:2:0 mode at 18 Mbps, or 3 hours and 20 minutes at 25 Mbps, and 2 hours and 30 minutes at 35 Mbps. In DVCAM™ mode, users can record about 3 hours and 10 minutes of content onto the dual-layer disc. The media is archive certified for 50 years.

The FUJIFILM Dual-Layer Professional Disc media is compatible with all new XDCAM HD™ products, including the PDW-F355L/F335L camcorders, PDW-F75/F30 decks and PDW-U1 drive unit.

Using blue-laser technology, the new dual-layer disc can attain high density recording of more than 10 times the capacity of a consumer DVD (4.7GB) using red-laser technology. The 12cm (5 inch) rewritable optical disc has a track pitch of 0.32 µm. It is encased in a protective cartridge that is designed to be resistant to dust, shock and X-rays.

The XDCAM system requires precise, high-density recording so the discs utilize a unique hard coating to minimize dust adhesion and surface scratches ensuring enhanced durability and reliable playback. Additionally, the discs are packaged in a durable and dust-resistant cartridge, are resistant to heat and humidity and are resistant to X-rays, which means that they are ideal for use in extreme field recording environments. These features enable a long media life and long-term media storage, so with proper handling and appropriate environment the discs have a potential archival storage life of over 50 years.

The Fujifilm Dual-Layer Professional Disc media will be available in Fall 2008. To learn more about the full line of Fujifilm professional recording and storage solutions, go to www.fujifilmusa.com/proav.
