* Nortel and LG Electronics Demonstrate two world firsts in LTE Mobile Broadband

Nortel and LG Electronics are the first in the world to demonstrate the power of 4G LTE over AWS spectrum, an advanced wireless services frequency band recently auctioned off in the U.S. The two companies have also achieved the world’s first demonstration of LTE broadband connectivity in a moving vehicle, bringing wireless internet to passengers in a car traveling at over 100 kilometers per hour.

* Nortel Gives World’s First Demonstration of New Multimedia Service Standard on 2G/3G Phones at CTIA

Nortel will show how IMS Centralized Service (ICS) makes new multimedia services like multi priority calling and picture caller ID on mobile phones possible across any type of network - 2G, 3G, 4G, WiFi, WiMAX and LTE. ICS also enables features like the ability to transfer maps while in a call to provide a caller’s current location based on GPS or network location information as well as innovative new Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) services like call-park and call pick-up where a user can “park” a call on one device and “pick up” the call on another device, without interrupting the connection. This solution allows operators to deliver advanced multimedia services today while preparing their networks for an evolution to 4G.

* Nortel Shows World’s First Demonstration of Telepresence over 4G Wireless Broadband at CTIA 2008

Nortel is demonstrating how the high-speed connectivity of 4G WiMAX broadband can be used to provide telepresence services in remote locations. Nortel Telepresence Services offer a whole new level of media-rich interaction that defies geographic boundaries and allows colleagues around the world to collaborate as if they were in the same room. By adding WiMAX to the mix, Nortel is demonstrating how the cost-saving of telepresence - achieved through minimizing meeting travel expenses - can be extended to remote users of wireless broadband. 4G wireless technologies are uniquely suited to be paired with telepresence because they have the speed and capacity to support the high-definition video conferencing that is part of the telepresence experience.
