New Technologies in Support of Emerging DTV Standards, TG700 Signal Generator Modules, Picture Quality Analysis, and Cerify File-Based Quality Assurance Integration with Dolby Laboratories

BEAVERTON, Ore., March 2008 - Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced the company will demonstrate several new technologies at the National Association of Broadcasters ( NAB ) 2008 conference April 14-17, 2008 in booth #N2520. Tektronix will present and demonstrate solutions across its portfolio from SD to HD, along with MPEG and next generation compression technologies to assist companies solve today’s digital delivery and quality challenges.

“As the digital video ecosystem continues to expand there are always new and emerging standards and technologies,” said Arif Kareem, vice president, Video Product Line, Tektronix. “For more than 60 years, Tektronix has helped define the standard for test, measurement, and monitoring tools for the video industry. At NAB 2008 we will show our industry-leading product portfolio and new technologies in development. We’re committed to providing the best in class measurement tools and software solutions our customers need in the New Digital World.”

At NAB 2007 Tektronix introduced the PQA500 HD Picture Quality Analyzer. At NAB 2008, Tektronix will demonstrate upcoming functionality for the PQA500 including simultaneous generation and capture of SDI video. This feature enhances the value of the PQA as a diagnostic tool, eliminating the need for additional equipment and space required to prepare an external video signal. The ability to precisely specify the capture content for the PQA500 relative to the source material at the frame level greatly improves an engineer’s efficiency by enabling the optimization of test conditions.

Tektronix will demonstrate RF generator, multiplexer and analysis tools that support the ISDB-TB standard for Brazil and the DTMB standard for China terrestrial broadcast. Tektronix has been working closely with key stakeholders in each region to develop industry leading tools to enable the successful roll out of these new DTV standards for terrestrial broadcast.

Additionally, Tektronix will demonstrate two new capabilities for the TG700 modular multi-format precision signal generator. The first is a 3Gbps SDI module to support 1080p SDI signal generation on a single link. The second new TG700 module being demonstrated is a GPS module designed to allow the TG700 to act as a master clock and synchronization system, including video reference and timecode. A GPS clock can simplify facility configuration by supplying all necessary clock signals from a single, worldwide reference.

Cerify continues to be the industry’s only fully automatic file-based content verification tool. Prototype Cerify applications will be demonstrated interfacing with the Dolby DP600 and DP600-CProgram Optimizers at the Dolby booth (#N1814) and in the Tektronix booth (#N2520). Dolby Laboratories is a member of the Cerify Developers Community. These demonstrations reflect a focused investment by Tektronix and its partners to ensure operability of their respective components within the complex workflows of file-based content ingest, management, and interchange.
