ChangHong Selects NXP To Launch AVS-Enabled IP Set-Top Box
High quality video on new cost-effective platform to spur growth of IPTV in Asia
Eindhoven, The Netherlands .- NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, today announced that its latest highly-integrated, low-cost set-top box (STB) solution, STB222 has been selected by ChangHong to deliver AVS-compliant IP STB platform to manufacturers and Pay TV operators in Asia. ChangHong provides the AVS (Audio Video Coding Standard) decoder technology to enable high-quality video over IP networks to deliver a better viewing experience for consumers through the enjoyment of services such as video-on-demand, recording and pausing live TV, and enhanced interactive services.
A flexible, advanced platform targeting IP, Digital TV and hybrid set-top boxes, the STB222 supports advanced video standards, including MPEG-4AVC, H264, VC-1 and MPEG-2. The optional HDMI support also enables standard-definition (SD) content to be up-scaled to 1080p. As OEMs and operators seek to cater to a variety of broadcast standards and global markets, the STB222’s dual channel support allows you to easily create hybrid IP STB solutions, combining the IP channel with terrestrial, satellite or cable DVB reception.
“ChangHong’s proven AVS technology fits perfectly with NXP’s focus on delivering more digital content with superior picture quality and an anytime, anywhere entertainment experience to consumers,” said Christos Lagomichos, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Home Business Unit, NXP Semiconductors. “As STB adoption picks up pace in Asian markets, the flexibility of NXP’s STB222 to support multiple advanced video codecs without the need for external DSPs makes for a cost-effective platform for manufacturers, enabling easy and quick deployment for a variety of set-top box environments.”
“NXP’s set-top box platforms with ChangHong’s AVS technology have already proven highly reliable and flexible in field trials with major operators in China, and the STB222 delivers an edge in cost-efficiency - essential to drive the adoption of IPTV in Asia,” said En’yang Zhang, Director of Technology Center, ChangHong. “We are excited about our joint development initiatives with NXP to bring leading edge picture quality and advanced multi-format video capabilities to more and more consumers around the world.”
NXP’s STB222 integrates the latest security and conditional access (CA) features to help secure PVR applications and operator specific CA schemes. As such, secure boot, unique ID and secure key handling are implemented on the STB222, along with decryption standards such as AES, DES, 3DES, DVB-CSA and Multi2. The STB222 also includes a wide range of connectivity options including Ethernet for IP based video services, PC connectivity or in-home networking, as well as USB2.0 and SATA to support external or internal hard disk drives (HDD) for PVR applications, as also other peripherals. Manufacturers can choose from Linux or WinCE for fast system development.
ChangHong’s AVS-compliant IP set-top box platform based on NXP’s STB222 solution will on demo at CCBN 2008 in Beijing, China during March 21-23.
NXP’s newest set-top box solution, STB222 will be on demo at Convergence India in New Delhi during March 19-21.
