Great Excursions Welcomes Saskatchewan’s First Major Tourism Budget Increase in Years

Saskatchewan’s oldest receptive tour operator is encouraged by the announcement today in the provincial budget of an additional $8 million to double funding for tourism marketing, capital investments, improved highway signage and enhanced partnerships.

“I understand that a substantial portion of this budget allocation will go directly to support Tourism Saskatchewan’s marketing activities. Tourism operators in this province have been hoping for this kind or renewed commitment to the provincial tourism industry for some time,” said Great Excursions’ President and CEO Claude-Jean Harel. “It is a very positive sign indeed, especially in light of the other tourism-related elements cited in the budget, on which the tourism industry depends.”

“The increase in funding from the Government of Saskatchewan through various investments in the province’s park system, the establishment of the new Provincial Capital Commission, the Western Development Museums and the continued support of the cultural industries can only help improve Saskatchewan’s ability to seize the emerging tourism opportunities on the world scene,” noted Harel.
