DUBLIN, CALIF. — MARCH 2008 — Sybase today announced the formation of the Sybase® DBA Development Program, designed to promote individual career development within the current Sybase Database Administrator (DBA) community as well as to encourage familiarity and expertise in Sybase database products and technologies within the industry at large. The program will offer database professionals exclusive educational, career development and networking opportunities.

“Sybase continues to see strong adoption for its databases and 2007 was our best year yet, with over 20% growth in new customers in our core products—Adaptive Server® Enterprise, Sybase IQ and SQL Anywhere®,” said Raj Nathan, chief marketing officer. “As customers continue to adopt distributed data management strategies we will continue to see growing demands on the number of Sybase certified database professionals in the technology sector. The formation of the Sybase DBA Development program will help facilitate growth and opportunity for individuals working with Sybase technologies.”

The first highlight of this program is the launch of the Sybase DBA Network hosted on the Xing business networking platform, located at: http://www.xing.com/net/sybasedba. This online community will serve as the hub for Sybase DBA Development Program activities. The Sybase DBA Network is being created to provide discussion forums, newsletters, event coordination and news of interest focused on the career development of Sybase database professionals. In the discussion forums, members can network, share career information and discuss educational opportunities. The program is open to Sybase Database Administrators and those who employ or manage database professionals who work with Sybase technologies. The group encourages membership by individuals who are interested in becoming a Sybase DBA or working with Sybase database professionals in their business.

The Sybase DBA Development Program is expected to include additional initiatives including the award of scholarships and bursary awards for those who wish to train as Sybase Certified Professionals. In addition, the program expects to include job placement, referral assistance and targeted educational programs as part of a University Development component to encourage educational institutions to include Sybase technologies in their curriculum by providing software, instructional materials and informational support for interested schools.
