Green Girl offers useful tips for healthy campus living

Redwood City, Calif. – March 19, 2008 – While balancing classes with social activities is difficult enough for the average college student, trying to have a more healthy lifestyle is no easy feat either. Dorms are breeding grounds for all things unhealthy: From the bleach filled bathrooms to seemingly harmless electric appliances.

Nineteen-year old college student Lily Berthold-Bond shares her trials and tribulations of living a greener and healthier lifestyle on campus via her new blog, The Adventures of Green Girl: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/blogs/green-girl-adventures. Featured on Care2.com, Lily’s blog, shares simple tips and helpful information, through her own experiences, to help guide students in making healthier decisions.

“I am finding that other college students are interested in living healthier and greener, and are starting to change their products,” said Lily. “Most of my friends at school are no longer using nasal sprays because of my recent post about these sprays containing potentially harmful narcotic substances. They are now looking at other natural products when they are sick.”

For instance, Lily provides natural alternatives to popular artificially scented air fresheners, which are pervasive in most dorm rooms. She also shares new insight on how and why students should protect themselves from laptops with laptop shields: The computers emit radiation that can negatively affect one’s reproductive system. Lily will also offer natural and safer substitutes on everyday products, like cleaning supplies, make-up and cold remedies.

A freshman at Tufts University, Lily is not the average college student: She grew-up in a completely chemical-free household with her mom, Annie B. Bond, an environmental guru, who has authored several books on green living. With this exceptionally healthy upbringing Lily is not only more aware and sensitive to commercial products, but gained an invaluable education.

“For the first 18 years of my life, it was hammered into me that all chemicals are bad,” continued Lily. “People have no idea of what they are putting into their system. This is where I can make a difference in the world and to those within it: By providing my peers advice that will help them make conscious decisions about what they purchase and use.”

The Adventures of Green Girl - http://www.care2.com/greenliving/blogs/green-girl-adventures - extends Care2’s mission of being a resource of information that enables members and visitors to make choices that positively affect their health and the environment.
