Joint standards-based offering delivers mission-critical collaboration for federal civilian agencies and military commands

San Francisco, CA and Denver, CO - November 28, 2005 - Macromedia, Inc. (Nasdaq: MACR) today announced a partnership with Jabber, Inc., a leading provider of real-time, standards-based presence and messaging solutions. The companies plan to integrate Macromedia Breeze Meeting and the Jabber Extensible Communications Platform (Jabber XCP), while partnering in the pursuit of federal business. The joint offerings will allow the Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies to rapidly deploy a web conferencing, instant messaging (IM), chat, presence, and awareness solution that meets the rigorous standards requirements of the federal government. The first deliverable of the partnership is expected to be available in early 2006 and will enable users to easily launch Breeze Meetings directly from Jabber XCP.

“The integration of Breeze Meeting with Jabber XCP creates a powerful web conferencing, messaging, and presence solution for federal government customers,” said Rick Emery, vice president of business development, Jabber, Inc. “Pairing the rich, real-time collaboration capabilities of Macromedia Breeze with Jabber XCP’s open, interoperable presence and messaging infrastructure delivers a standards-based, best-in-class solution for mission-critical communications.”

Breeze Meeting is a powerful, easy-to-use, highly interactive web conferencing and collaboration solution that delivers whiteboard, chat, VoIP, and video capabilities in virtually any web browser. Breeze supports a host of government and commercial security features and enterprise scalability, and can be implemented behind an agency’s firewall to leverage existing network security infrastructure. Breeze harnesses the ubiquity of Macromedia Flash® Player, which is available on most federal agency gold disks and deployed on over 600 million desktops and mobile devices worldwide. In addition, Breeze is U.S. DoD JITC-certified and easily integrated into government installations.

Jabber XCP is a real-time presence and messaging platform allowing people, devices, and applications to instantly communicate and exchange streaming Extensible Markup Language (XML) data, based upon static and changing presence and availability information. By embedding streaming XML data into a wide variety of services, Jabber XCP extends the benefits of real-time, presence-based communications beyond IM. Jabber XCP is based upon the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), an open protocol natively based in XML and approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a standard for IM and presence technologies. In addition, XMPP is ratified as an emerging standard within the DoD.

“Jabber XCP is a highly intuitive presence and messaging solution that when combined with Breeze will enable warfighters to share critical information in real time to enhance situational awareness and collaboration—ensuring mission success,” said Barry Leffew, vice president of government sales, Macromedia. “We are excited to bring together these leading technologies into a single solution for government agencies and look forward to extending the benefits of this integration to federal agencies who are seeking secure, standards-based collaboration solutions.”

Macromedia and Jabber, Inc. will also be working together in the financial services and telecommunications markets to address the needs of customers with similar requirements for integrated, customizable, and secure collaboration solutions.
