One of Europe’s most modern cable plants to be built in CHEMPARK
Leverkusen, March 2008 – Bayer Business Services, the Bayer Group’s international competence center for IT-based services, is to assume responsibility for the telephone and IT data connections of nkt cables in Leverkusen for an initial five-year period. nkt cables is one of the world’s leading high-tech manufacturers of cables and cable accessories for the energy transfer and high voltage sector.

This means Bayer Business Services will be responsible for the vital global IT communications lines of nkt cables. „We will be looking after both the installation and the management of telephone and data connections”, says Bernd Schmitz, account manager at Bayer Business Services, which also serves many other companies in the CHEMPARK. In the long term Schmitz hopes to extend the customer relationship by providing more services to nkt cables: “Negotiations are already taking place with this aim in mind,” says Schmitz.

The agreement between BBS and nkt cables came about in connection with the relocation of the Cologne company and its some 500 employees to CHEMPARK in Leverkusen. Production on the 84,000-square-meter site in the Cologne-Flittard sector of CHEMPARK is due to start in 2009. In February Leverkusen CHEMPARK Manager Dr. Ernst Grigat already explained the importance of the project: “The decision by nkt cables to relocate here represents our biggest success so far in attracting new companies to CHEMPARK.” When completed, the plant will be among the most modern cable production facilities in Europe.
