North American Launch of OK! Magazine Benefits from New Global Communications Infrastructure

Reading, 28 November 2005 - MCI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCIP) today announced that Express Newspapers Group, publishers of The Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star, Daily Star Sunday, OK! Magazine, New, Star Magazine and Happy, has chosen to deploy MCI’s Private IP service to support its portfolio of publications and continued global expansion.

The Express Newspapers Group needed a resilient Private IP network that offered sufficient bandwidth to transfer large, image-heavy files between offices and across continents. After comparing the network offerings from other major providers, Express Newspapers selected MCI’s Private IP service, replacing their current service.

“MCI has worked closely with us from day one and we are really impressed with the level of support provided,” said Paul White, IT Director, Express Newspapers. “It is clear that MCI understands the business challenges that we face, and its Private IP service provides a future proof global communications solution.”

MCI’s Private IP service is now fully operational between Express Newspapers’ London and New York offices. It is scheduled to roll out across an additional nine UK sites by the end of 2005 and an additional five European sites early in 2006. The London to New York link supported the North American launch of OK! Magazine in September 2005, and this ability to quickly and easily add new sites is crucial to Express Newspapers plans to roll out publications in different regions.

Continued White: “The London to New York implementation was impressively smooth and the teams are already taking advantage of services such as video conferencing. The services provided by MCI’s Private IP have the potential to transform the way we do business.”

MCI’s Private IP service increases bandwidth and provides the ability to prioritise applications, enhancing network flexibility and file transfer speed, which will help Express Newspapers meet tight deadlines. Direct connectivity to the MCI global Private IP backbone reduces call and network operation costs, while also providing a platform for the launch of future services, such as MCI’s Global Remote Access Solution - which Express Newspapers plans to introduce for its international network of over 200 freelance journalists.

In the provision of the service, MCI has provided two completely separate connections (separate cables, access circuits and routers) to each of Express Newspapers’ main offices in support of the Group’s business continuity needs.

“A key factor in Express Newspapers’ decision to work with MCI was our commitment to working closely with organizations to understand their individual business challenges,” said Stuart Curzon, VP Sales and Services UK & Ireland, MCI Europe. “Express Newspapers values the high-quality of customer service and performance that we deliver, and we look forward to working with the group as it continues to launch more titles in new and existing markets.”
