38th Annual Lauds & Laurels tradition to recognize 18 alumni and friends during May 8 ceremony

UC Irvine vice chancellor and lifelong Anteater, Roy Dormaier ’69, will be honored with the Extraordinarius award at the 38th annual Lauds & Laurels ceremony presented by the UCI Alumni Association.

Seventeen others, including alumni, friends and students, also will be honored for their heartfelt dedication and commitment to the University of California, Irvine during the May 8 ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.

Since 1971, UCIAA has bestowed its highest honors on more than 600 alumni and friends, with proceeds from the evening benefiting UCIAA scholarship programs.

The Extraordinarius award, Lauds & Laurels’ most prestigious recognition, honors those extraordinary individuals who have prominently contributed to the advancement of the UC Irvine campus and support the university’s fundamental missions of teaching, research and public service.

Dormaier, a member of UC Irvine’s charter class, began his life’s work shortly after graduating in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. During the ensuing four decades, Dormaier has helped shape the university’s success, from overseeing its budget office to developing its land assets programs.

Dormaier also created the Campus Asset Management division and presently serves as the campus’s vice chancellor for Planning and Budget. In this role, Dormaier is responsible for the university’s operating budget, which exceeds $1.5 billion, and the oversight of more than $2 billion in capital construction costs.

“Roy’s loyalty to UCI is deeper and more lasting than any other person I have met while at this institution,” said Michael Gottfredson, executive vice chancellor and provost. “His contributions have been for the long term and the campus is far, far richer because of them. He is indeed extraordinary.”
