WEBWIRE

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Aetna (NYSE: ΑET) will be the presenting sponsor for the American Diabetes Association Diabetes EXPO Atlanta, continuing the company’s efforts to raise diabetes awareness and reduce obesity in the Metro Atlanta community.

Diabetes EXPO Atlanta will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building C, Hall C4.

“Aetna’s generous contribution has made it possible for the American Diabetes Association to provide the opportunity for the residents of Georgia to attend Diabetes Expo Atlanta, where they can speak one-on-one with health care professionals, get health screenings and learn about healthy living. On behalf of the American Diabetes Association and the over 700,000 Georgians with diabetes, I would like to thank Aetna for its generous contribution toward our efforts to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes,” said Mike Gault, senior executive director, American Diabetes Association/Atlanta Region.

In 2007, Aetna and the Aetna Foundation awarded $450,000 in community grants and sponsorships in Georgia, with a strong focus on diabetes and related conditions.

“Diabetes is one of the major health challenges facing Georgia residents,” said Cynthia Follmer, head of Aetna’s Georgia market. “And so much suffering can be avoided by living a healthy lifestyle or, if you have diabetes, by learning to manage your condition. This is why Aetna has targeted diabetes awareness in Georgia, and has teamed up with the American Diabetes Association. We’re proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Diabetes EXPO Atlanta.”
