NI Police award £34m IT contract to Fujitsu Services

Fujitsu Services, a leading IT services company, has been awarded a contract to manage and improve a range of IT technologies used by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

The deal is expected to improve the quality of IT services and reduce costs, and will ultimately benefit police on the street. In particular, officers and staff will benefit from a 24/7 support desk designed to improve the speed in which IT queries are handled.

The task, which was previously outsourced to five different sub-contractors, will see Fujitsu Services provide IT managed services for data networks, applications hosting & support services, a network of static and mobile automatic number plate recognition cameras, service desks and more than 8,000 computers used by the force.

Eithne Wallis, Managing Director of Fujitsu Government Business, said, “We were selected on our ability to work in partnership with the PSNI, provide cost effectiveness, supply a solid approach to contract management and deliver stringent service level requirements. It was also crucial that we have a successful track record of managing the transition from multiple contracts to a new single IT managed service.”

John Tully, head of information and communications services for NI police said, “We expect this new contract with Fujitsu to deliver real, tangible benefits to front line police officers. Modern day policing is heavily dependent upon information and communication technology and therefore the reliability and availability of service to the PSNI is paramount. The agreement with Fujitsu will also allow existing ICT staff within the police force to work on other more strategic projects.”
