Universal Music Group Chairman And CEO Doug Morris To Receive City of Hope’s 2008 Spirit of Life® Award

Doug Morris, chairman and chief executive officer of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world\’s leading music company, has been named the 2008 recipient of the Spirit of Life Award by City of Hope’s Music and Entertainment Industry Group. The Spirit of Life Award is City of Hope’s most prestigious philanthropic honor and recognizes individuals who have committed their time and resources to helping those in need. Spirit of Life Award honorees are selected for their notable contributions to their community and profession. The award will be presented at a gala dinner in the fall of 2008.

“I am deeply honored to serve as this year’s Spirit of Life recipient to help recognize the innovative research conducted at City of Hope to find a cure for cancer,” stated Mr. Morris. “City of Hope has provided the science behind four of the leading cancer drugs used today. I look forward to leading the industry in its support of this visionary institution.”

As Chairman and CEO of UMG, Mr. Morris is responsible for guiding the overall global activities of the world’s largest music company. UMG encompasses the development, marketing, sales and distribution of recorded music through a network of subsidiaries, joint ventures and licensees in 77 countries around the world. UMG’s businesses also include the industry’s largest global music publishing operation, Universal Music Publishing Group. Throughout his career, Mr. Morris has worked with some of the most popular and influential artists of the past four decades including U2, The Rolling Stones, Phil Collins, Pete Townshend, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Nicks, Bette Midler, Tori Amos, INXS and Mariah Carey, among many others. Mr. Morris serves on the boards of The Robin Hood Foundation, CASA Foundation, and is a director of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2003, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) awarded Morris with the President’s Merit Award. Mr. Morris also serves on the Vivendi Management Board and is a member of the Board of Directors of CBS Corporation.
