$1m contract supports privatisation of Jordanian energy company

QinetiQ announced today that its industrial power group has won a one million dollar contract from Jordan’s Central Electricity Generating Company (CEGCO) to provide independent performance assessment of its power plant at seven power stations.

QinetiQ will assess 31 gas and steam turbines following the privatisation of CEGCO by the Jordanian government which sold a majority stake in the company in September 2007. The performance assessment will take place over the next six months to establish the main technical parameters of the selected plant and generating units.

QinetiQ’s industrial power team is drawn from more than 200 gas turbine engineers who use high accuracy, calibrated test equipment to provide an independent view of the performance of assets. The team will assess the performance of CEGCO’s entire fleet and the power output to the national grid in Jordan.

“I am delighted CEGCO has selected our experienced industrial power team to undertake this substantial programme of work in support of the first ever privatisation in Jordan’s energy sector,” commented Clive Richardson, QinetiQ’s Chief Operating Officer for Europe, Middle East and Australasia (EMEA).

He added: “QinetiQ’s industrial power group has a growing reputation as a centre of excellence for the gas turbine power generation industry and for low emissions combustion technology. We look forward to further strengthening our reputation with CEGCO and other operators in this key region in support of QinetiQ’s strategy to grow our business in the Middle East.”

QinetiQ’s industrial power group draws on more than 50 years experience in gas turbine research and development to help gas turbine and equipment OEMs to improve their products and to support plant operators in reducing their cost of ownership. The contract with CEGCO was won in a competitive process and follows on from previous projects that the group has successfully delivered for high profile international clients in Italy, Germany and the UK.
