Secure Path, the leading provider of digital media asset registration and data management solutions for the media and entertainment industry, used Oracle(r) Fusion Middleware to create MediaDNS(tm). Leveraging Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF), Secure Path’s MediaDNS(tm) provides a standards-based Web platform that centralizes data management, distribution, analytics and reporting across the digital media supply chain.

Secure Path is the primary North American Registration Agency for the International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN) for the U.S.-based motion picture and television industries. MediaDNS(tm) acts as a central exchange between content owners and content distributors, enabling Secure Path to efficiently manage, translate and integrate the continually expanding content and metadata categories required by digital media participants.

The company chose to build the MediaDNS(tm) platform with Oracle Fusion Middleware after a comprehensive evaluation process. Oracle’s offering provided maximum scalability and extensibility. Oracle helped enable better management of the complex processes associated with transforming metadata into the unique formats media and entertainment companies require, as well as allowing multiple content distribution platforms to access authenticated metadata from numerous sources. Oracle BPEL Process Manager and Oracle ADF enabled Secure Path to develop a modern Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform consisting of a rich user interface and more than 50 processes that integrate metadata and interact with the Web services administered by the ISAN International Agency in Geneva, Switzerland.

“As the digital media landscape continues to evolve, the need for standardized and globally accepted content identification and data exchange has become crucial for media and entertainment companies in order to track usage, retrieve information, allocate royalties and combat piracy,” said David Benson, chief technology officer for Secure Path. “Running Secure Path’s platform on Oracle Fusion Middleware provides us with the highly scalable and adaptable solution that we need to meet our customer requirements and support future growth.”

Secure Path expects to include several new features in the next iteration of its MediaDNS(tm) platform to meet future requirements as the media and entertainment industry continues to expand digitally. The company has also been instrumental in the development of the Digital Data Exchange (DDEX) standard for the music industry and may expand the use of its SOA platform to enable its DDEX messaging management solution. As a result of Secure Path’s creative use of Oracle Fusion Middleware with Oracle Applications, the company was recently awarded a 2007 Oracle Excellence Award.

“Secure Path has teamed with Oracle to deliver a commercially available metadata management system for the media and entertainment industry. The company’s MediaDNS(tm) offering utilizes Oracle Fusion Middleware to provide a standardized, industry-specific metadata solution,” said Sonny Singh, senior vice president of Oracle’s Industry Business Unit.
