Atos Origin signs contract with DSM for the delivery of SAP services to increase flexibility and cost savings

WEBWIRE

Atos Origin, an international IT services company, and Royal DSM N.V., the global life sciences and materials sciences company, have signed a service agreement for the global delivery of SAP hosting and technical application management services until the end of 2013. This agreement is in addition to the existing master agreement and will provide DSM with a state-of-the-art hosting and data centre environment, increased flexibility and considerable cost savings.

The agreement leverages a utility-based infrastructure which allows DSM to align services flexibly with its dynamic business demands. The new solution matches the capacity provided to the exact demand, in order that no over-capacity is created. DSM makes use of a pool of resources shared securely by various customers and pays for usage instead of a fixed amount. As a result, the solution uses less hardware and is more environmentally friendly, because less energy is used and less cooling is required. It builds on Atos Origin’s implementation of its new data centre strategy, which includes deploying greener data centre technologies.

The future-proof design both caters for the existing SAP (Apollo) environment and anticipates a smooth integration of new functionality, such as SAP ECC, as available under SAP’s release strategy. The solutions are based upon contemporary business requirements and required service levels, and use Atos Origin’s global sourcing centres.

Jo van den Hanenberg, Executive Vice President and CIO at DSM explains: “Over the last six years Atos Origin has proven to be a reliable SAP Hosting provider. In renewing our SAP platforms and services we intend to build on Atos Origin’s SAP services track record. The new hosting services are Atos Origin standard services, based on state of the art technology for Utility Based Computing and Storage on Demand. This contract contributes to the Operational Excellence pillar of DSM’s strategy Vision 2010, by guaranteeing higher Service Levels to our critical business systems at substantial lower cost. In addition, with the on demand structure of the contracted services it provides DSM with the required flexibility and agility needed for Vision 2010 to quickly disentangle and integrate ICT systems as result of divestments and acquisitions.”

Rob Pols, CEO Atos Origin Netherlands, concludes: “This agreement emphasizes the long-lasting relationship between the two companies and underlines Atos Origin’s position as one of DSM’s strategic IT services suppliers. By means of this agreement, we can demonstrate our added value by bringing innovative and sustainable services to DSM. I am convinced that we will contribute to help DSM achieve its objectives of TCO reduction and increased flexibility”.
